Fabulous New Years Eve

New Years is rapidly approaching, and if you don’t have a fabulous outfit yet I’m here to help!
One trend for New Years is sparkle, and if you aren’t one to make a statement there are a lot of subtle ways to work this into your wardrobe. Twist Boutique downtown Naperville has three options for you-

This maroon and black sparkle top is a great way to add a subtle hint of flare, pair it with your favorite black pants or jeans and a simple earring.

Tulle $50 available at Twist Boutique

I love this vintage cut dress, it’s flattering on every figure because the draping hides any lumps and bumps but also enhances curves for a bombshell shape.

Tulle $60 available at Twist Boutique

If you like to be the show stopper pair this sparkle dress with maroon tights and a simple black heel and you’ll have everyone’s attention.

Tulle $68 available at Twist Boutique

On a budget this new years eve? Pull out your favorite black dress and head to M2 Boutique in downtown Naperville and pick up some of their fabulous accessories.

I just bought these earrings the other day, they catch the light beautifully but I really love that I can wear them with both silver and gold accessories.

$32 Available at M2 Boutique

If you’re going out to eat for New Years Eve, make sure you also pick up one of their pashmina’s to stay warm while staying glam.

$25 Many colors available at M2

Finally, make sure you stop by Bella Caley to fill your clutch with their wide selection of Hollywood products. If you’re wearing a daring dress you have to pick up their Hollywood fashion tape, and if your one to spill your cocktails their Hollywood stain removing pen is an absolute must.

Holiday Inspiration

As this is my pre-christmas blog, I decided to share with you a few holiday inspired photographs I took over the last few years. Instead of barking at you to shop local I wanted to give you the inspiration to have a fun, family filled holiday season. Bake some cookies with your cousin, go ice skating with your honey, and decorate the tree with your sibling.

Have a fantastic holiday!

10 Days Before Christmas

Oh. My. Gosh. 10 days til Christmas, yes, 10 days! Now take a deep breath, don't panic about the last gifts you need to purchase, the decorating that needs to be done, or the cookies that need to be baked (or store bought), I'm here to help!

When it comes to gifts you actually should be glad you waited, these next 10 days stores are worried that they over bought this holiday season and will be offering big mark downs. Take down town Naperville, the local stores host "Last Minute Madness" the Thursday and Friday before Christmas and offer a wide variety of discounts and gifts with purchase.

Worried about decking your halls for your holiday party? Relax, and keep it simple. Instead of extravagent center pieces on your table put a bowl filled with ribbon and ornaments or pieces of greens and those cute little clementines. When the kids are out of school and getting into everything, have them make some ornaments. Cover your table with news paper and give them paints, card stock, ribbons and old magazines and you'll end up with sweet, meaningful ornaments to hang off your tree.

Finally, I love to bake and I've found that CrumblyCookie.net has tons of great recipies and pictures of different holiday treats. This season I'm trying their Chocolate Chip Cookie recipie and Roll Out Sugar Cookies.

Have a fun and happy holiday season!

Holiday Shopping {Downtown Naperville}

This holiday season keep your shopping local, which isn’t always an easy task if you have some challenging recipients. To make it easier for you, I’ve assembled a fabulous list of go to places for your gifts.

1. Twist Boutique
Of course I have to start with Twist, with their $30 and under gift table you’re sure to pick up some goodies for the trendies on your list. With scarves, Thymes candles, and Love and Toast beauty products you can stock up on a lot of gifts without blowing your budget on the first shop.
Perk: they offer gift wrap!

2. M2 Boutique
I have trouble going to M2 and walking out without a purchase, they have items for the jewelry and accessory lovers on your list and then some! Hopefully they don’t read this, but I picked up an awesome memory book at M2 for my sister’s boyfriend where he can stick the tickets and pictures of concerts he goes to, and a pair of earrings for my sister!
Perk: they offer gift wrap!
3. Bella Caley
Bella Caley is a great gift destination, with candles, home goods, and Mila Rose head bands by local designer Melissa Lopez, you can knock out a lot of items on your list. They offer items for a mixed clientele- from your 13 year old niece who has a love for extravagance to your mother in law who has a love for elegance.

4. Saraboo Creek
Saraboo Creek is a great place to shop for those who love to decorate, because you’re able to custom make your own signs. With everything from butterflies to beer mugs you can create a sign tailored to the lucky recipient, they’ll be sure to love it.

5. Adagio Tea
For the tea lover in your life Adagio Tea is a great place to pick up gorgeous tea pots, mugs, and loose leaf teas that smell absolutely fabulous. Make sure to take a cup of tea to go to warm your hands while you finish shopping!

6. Twisted Olive
Twisted Olive is newer to downtown, and is a fun place to try olive oils and balsamic vinaigrette’s. The staff has been super helpful every time I’ve stepped through their door and you can even get beautifully wrapped gift baskets for the foodies in your life.

I promise you can find fabulous unique gifts in the locally owned shops in downtown Naperville, and you’ll be promoting the local economy. Bring your friends and make a day of it!

Happy Holidays!

Holiday Inspiration {Anthropologie}

This quarter in school I’ve interned at Anthropologie’s Bock 37 location in their visual display department. As my internship comes to a close and I get ready for my class presentation I’ve been looking over the images of the work I helped with and can’t get over how visually inspirational the company is. I’ve found that now I’ll never throw anything away because you can make art out of anything. The pictures below are of the fall windows we just took down which were made out of pizza circles, unbelievable! They were all folded and painted by my fabulous supervisor and the other intern, and the hand crafted work makes it really special.

The next pictures are from my favorite display, when you walk into the store you are greeted with these earthy-meet-modern tree stumps which were made out of chicken wire and cardboard. They come up with the most creative uses for everyday items that I want to craft when I get home from work!

Finally, these last photos are of the candles I melted to look “Phantom-of-the-Opera-like” and are a great way to decorate for the holidays. To do this at home stick some cheap candle sticks in holders or a vase of sand to keep them in place and light them all. While they are burning take one candle and hold it over each candle one by one, this will melt both candles and create dramatic wax drippings.

Have any inspirational holiday ideas? Leave a comment, I would love to read them!

New Discovery: Shabby Apple

I love finding unique websites so when my friend dropped a hint of ShabbyApple.com I had to check it out. This unique dress website categorizes their dresses by theme, for example “The Silk Road” has Asian inspired pieces or Oh la la which is filled with adorable dresses featuring sailor stripes. This one stop adorable shop has clothing for fitness, swimwear, plus size, maternity and aprons as well as accessories and clothing for little ones. You will honestly never need to shop anywhere else ever again, their unique pieces are appropriate for everyday, the office, a night with the girls, or your Saturday morning yoga class.

Unsure what dresses will flatter you? Click on their “style tools” section answer three simple questions and they’ll tell you your body type and countless suggestions of what will look fabulous on your fabulous figure.

And it gets better- click on “Charity” to read how Shabby Apple donates 5% of their proceeds to Unitus who work with poverty stricken families in India, which is where they produce their goods and fabrics. This online shop is so unique, take the time to look around and you’ll be sure to fall in love with at least one item.

Product Review: Tresemme Dry Shampoo

Unless you have really short or baby fine hair, there is no reason to wash your hair every day. A few days after blow drying though my hair gets so flat so I’m absolutely in love with- and very picky about- dry shampoo. I’m passionate about Ojon dry shampoo, it smells and works fabulously but what girl can afford that on a monthly basis? So for a more affordable option I tried the first introduction of Tresemme’s hair refreshers- the waterless foam shampoo and hated it! I just made my hair damp and lifeless even if I blew it dry, so today I picked up their dry shampoo spray at Target. My bangs could use a little life so I just spritzed them, rubbed it in, and boom! Voluminous, fabulous, full of life hair! I love it! I would strongly recommend any girl to pick up this affordable option- keep it in your bathroom, throw it in your gym bag and you’re set!

Trend: Mad for Plaid

Here's the thing- I like plaid, really I do, but it needs to be made girly and fun for this fall because I'm so done with men's wear inspired fashion. Last winter we saw the plaid trend with men's plaid shirts under cardigans, but this fall and winter it's now flirty. This fun top is from Modcloth and enhances your shape with elastic smocking around the waist to huge your curves. Personally, I wouldn't button it all the way up to the neck as pictured here and I would wear it with Joe's Jeans skinny visionaire super stretchy fit pant. Pair this look with some vintage inspired boots or flats from Mod Cloth and your hair in loose feminine curls.
Let's make this fall and winter girly and show off our figures!

Product Junkie: One Bar Wonder

Growing up with a mother who has a passion for beauty products, my bathroom was always full of beautiful tubes, jars, and powders. Now, I have a love for all things cosmetic and have an open mind for trying anything which is how I stumbled upon J.R. Liggett's bar of shampoo. I recently was told that a big movement in the green community is to switch from bottles to bars because there's less packaging and therefore creates a greener product, so I skeptically grabbed my bar of shampoo and hoped in the shower.

I'm going to be honest with you- I didn’t like this product when I first tried it, I lathered up my hair with it twice and then conditioned and it left my hair feeling a bit rough. The next time I tried it though I let my hair relish in some jojoba oil before I showered and it made a world of a difference, my hair felt absolutely luxuriously green! If your doing an updo but need to wash your hair, use J.R. Liggett's without jojoba oil and you'll get that great texture needed to hold up any style. The shampoo is made of natural vegetable oils instead of harsh chemicals, and it’s a great option if your vegan, vegetarian or just animal friendly.

Traveling? Double duty items are a necessity to keep your luggage light and this one bar wonder also makes a great shaving soap for you and you beau. I haven’t gotten to the best part yet, this shampoo is only $6.99 yes that’s right, $6.99 try to think of the last time you spent under $7 for shampoo. Their products can be purchased online, in health food stores like Whole Foods, and camping and outdoor stores.

Happy Health: Tease Dance and Fitness

I don’t like working out, and I’m not afraid to admit it. I find being a slave to the treadmill for half an hour a day a chore, so when I received an email from Local Ginger about Tease Dance and Fitness I decided to give it a try. I went for their Teaser intro class last week with a friend of mine and had the time of my life! If you need a change in your workout routine, or want to start a workout routine, Tease is absolutely the place for you. Located in Naperville on Wherli Road, Tease is owned by Kristin Hubbard, a mom and proud supporter of “me time”. She designs her classes to empower her students and get them to feel confident and happy about their figures and encourages them to “turn of their minds”. Hubbard and her employees are a fabulous group of women who show newcomers that despite your jean size, despite how your hair looks that day, and despite what’s going on in your life you are a truly gorgeous woman inside and out.

Her classes start with about 45 sensual Pilates to warm up and work out your arms, abs, hips, booty and legs. This tough workout gets your body moving in ways it hasn’t before and gets every muscle fired up. From there the class moves onto the poll which couldn’t be more freeing despite the bruises you get! This class is a great alternative to a boring workout, and let me tell you- I’m sorer after this class than I am when I go to the gym by myself, and I have a lot more fun at Tease.

I know you desperately want to attend class, so here is their information:

Keep Calm and Carry On

I have an Etsy addiction, I’ll be the first to admit it, because I love things that are hard to find or one of a kind. My absolute favorite Etsy seller is Pressureless who personally silk screens the infamous poster, “Keep Calm and Carry On”.

It’s been in home magazines such as Domino (R.I.P.), House Beautiful, and countless shows on HGTV but have you heard its history?

During World War Two the British government pasted this quotation all over the city as war time propaganda to convince citizens to keep living their lives despite the upheaval.

Normally only shown in red Virginia based Pressureless offers these in an array of colors from basic red, to fun blue raspberry and even fancy gold. They match every d├ęcor and remind you to keep calm and carry on, despite how stressfully your life has become.

To purchase your own visit their Etsy page:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/pressureless

Note: I personally have purchased three, and every time the shipping is prompt and well packaged. There are many Etsy sellers who offer a similar product but this seller, I’ve found, has the best quality and price.

Love Local: Local Ginger

We all know I can’t get enough of local business, so imagine my delight when I stumbled upon Local Ginger.com, a website that sends out offers once or twice a week with discounts at local companies. The best part about Local Ginger though, is that unlike some email bargain giants Local Ginger really is local and not just a nearby major city- they have deals for your specific ‘hood! I receive emails from Daily Candy (as we all do) but so many of their deals and events are in Chicago, which I live an hour away from, but Local Ginger has been sending me deals for places right around the corner from my house!

Currently they are offering a $30 gift card for $15 to this amazing looking bakery called Desired Confections a company that ships their deliciosities right to my door! Local Ginger has a similar set up at Groupon who require 30 or plus people to sign up to snag their deals but Local Ginger only needs 5, so almost every deal goes through. Last week they offered at $30 for $15 for a pizza place, and before that a $29 massage and a spa down the street from me. Yes you read right $29 for a massage! I know, now you want to know where to sign up, so here are their details:

Simply put in your email, plug in your city and start saving!
(side note, this is also a great way to advertise your business!)

Etsy Find: Lewa's Designs

I’m currently redecorating my bedroom, and am going for a boutique-y chic feel to flatter my clothes horse tendencies. To achieve this look I’m painting my walls Pastel Jade from Behr paints and hanging up the black and white brocade curtains from my boutiques old location, but I feel like something was missing.

I decided I needed some wall art, and started looking for some fun decals and stumbled upon Lewa’s Designs on Etsy.com. These are possibly the most fun decals I have ever seen in my life! She has something for whatever your looking for- from sweet birds for your baby room, mod dandelions, elegant damask shapes and even a chubby little panda to stick on your laptop!

I’m loving this spooky tree featured here, which she offers in 31 (believe or not) different colors. What’s incredible about these decals though, is that instead redecorating your entire space, you can purchase one of these decals that range around $50 and give your room a breath of fresh air. If you’re a decorating chameleon don’t fret! Lewa’s decals can easily be removed so you don’t have to commit to this stick on for life!

Seeing as you now desperately want one, get in touch with Lewa here:

Love Local: V Fish Designs

At the boutique I work at we recently started carrying a new locally designed brand called V-Fish- and we can barely keep it in stock! As soon as we received our first shipment I fell in love- and I knew I had to share it with all of you!

V-Fish was founded by husband and wife Tal and Mandy Moise who wanted to offer chic yet comfortable items for women. With their main location in Lincoln Park, Chicago the duo also sells their collections to 360 boutiques across the nation and you can locate the store nearest you here.

Personally, I love the comfy casual designs and figure flattering styles. Each dress is made of a viscose and spandex blend, so you can wear it all day and feel as if your wearing your favorite tshirt. Another benefit of this material is that you can ball it up and shove it in the bottom of a suitcase or overnight back and slip it on days later without one wrinkle in sight- a must for any jetsetter.

The sleeveless v-neck style is one of my absolute favorites due to its versatility- wear it in the summer as is or throw a sweater and tights with it in the fall and your all set.

Must See: Man Shops Globe

We all know my dedicated love to the Anthropologie lifestyle, so when I discovered their new show was available on OnDemand I jumped for joy. Shown on the Sundance channel “Man Shops Globe” is about Keith, one of the Anthropologie buyers, who searches the world to find unique items for Anthro and their galleries. Initially traveling to Australia Keith discovers a woman who creates cardboard art work, such as the chandelier shown here which was showcased in their gallery at the Rockefeller location. He then travels to Sweden and finds this adorable old woman who makes gnomes and explains “the gnomes, they live here, we are together”.

Being in the retail industry you’ll also love to watch his buying process, in the Sweden episode he explains that “being a buyer is also being an editor” which is so incredibly true and why Anthropologie is such a unique shopping destination. This show not only makes you want to stop into the location nearest you but it also sparks an urge to travel. The cinematography of each episode shows the destinations best features, in Australia the beautiful water and ocean is showcased and while in Sweden he shows the foggy roads in the morning and the gorgeous rich forests.

This show is without a doubt a must see.
if your are fortunate enough to have the Sundance channel you can watch it on
Wednesdays at 10pm.
If, like me, you don’t have this luxury channel you can catch up with
Comcasts OnDemand or watch it online at

Nathalie Lete at Anthropologie

Known for her sculpture and expressionist work, Nathalie Lete has now teamed up with Anthropologie to bring her whimsical artwork to life.
Her collection can be viewed on anthropologie.com and while her one of a kind items pack a pricey punch her dresses are much more reasonable. After studying fashion design Lete worked with Miyake and Lagerfeld and now she is putting her personal twist on home fashion, dresses, and skirts at Anthropologie.

The duo is a match made in whimsy heaven and I would expect to see this partnership last. This current collection can only be purchased on their website, but my guess is that her next line will be available at flagship stores across the country.
